Tyne Theatre Productions present Into the Woods on 8-10 March 2018!
Into the Woods is a modern twist of the Brothers Grimm’s original Grimm Tales characters facing trials and tribulations in the woods. One of Sondheim’s most popular works follows the classic tales of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Rapunzel, all tied together by a story of baker and his wife. This is a musical about wishes, family and choices we make.
Be careful what you wish for, wishes are dangerous beast to manage
A witch tasks a childless baker and his wife with procuring magical items from classic fairy tales, to reverse the curse put on their family tree. The Witch offers to lift the curse, but only if the Baker and his Wife obtain four critical items for her. A cow as white as milk, a cape as red as blood, the hair as yellow as corn, and a slipper as pure as gold. It’s these four items that send a baker and his barren wife through the woods on a magical journey to reverse an evil spell.
Phil Dixon brings the musical into the Tyne Theatre and Opera House with a little twist of Steampunk in characters and set.The musical start and ends with the words “I Wish”. See Phil’s interview to find out, what he wishes as a director of Into the Woods:
