We have pleasure in announcing the director for our production of INTO THE WOODS in March 2018 will be local actor and director, Phil Dixon.
Phil’s involvement with amateur theatre dates back to 1987 having taken lead and supporting roles, and he has directed many shows such as Jekyll and Hyde, Oklahoma, West Side Story, Jesus Christ Superstar and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. Having turned professional in 1994, his theatre work saw him working in pantomimes in Hereford, Kirkcaldy, Berwick upon Tweed, and an appearance as a featured singer in a gala concert at the London Palladium alongside MGM movie stars Russ Tamblyn, Marge Champion, Van Johnson and Cyd Charisse.
Now a qualified teacher specialising in performing arts, Phil’s relationship with the Tyne Theatre goes back some 25 years. “I was a student on the very first HND Musical Theatre course that Newcastle College ran back in 1992,” he said, “and we were based in Waterloo House at the back of the theatre. We used the theatre studios, workshops and stage as our practice areas, and we presented most of our performances in the theatre. Having access to such an historical venue was amazing, and taught me so much about the history and technicalities of producing theatre.”
